આ વર્ષે ‘ટ્રી ગણેશા’ અભિયાનની થીમ ‘લેટ્સ ક્રિએટ અર્બન ફોરેસ્ટ્સ’ રાખવામાં આવી છે. આ થીમ દ્વારા વિદ્યાર્થીઓને શહેરોમાં વધુને વધુ વૃક્ષો વાવવાની જરૂરિયાત અને તેના ફાયદાઓ વિશે જાગૃત કરવામાં આવે છે. આ અભિયાનમાં વિદ્યાર્થીઓને ‘સત્યાગ્રહ અગેઈન્સ્ટ પોલ્યુશન એન્ડ ક્લાયમેટ ચેન્જ’ નામના અભિયાન સાથે જોડવામાં આવે છે અને પર્યાવરણ સંરક્ષણ માટે પ્રેરિત કરવામાં આવે છે.
‘ટ્રી ગણેશા’ અભિયાનમાં દરેક વિદ્યાર્થીને એક છોડ ભેટમાં આપવામાં આવે છે જેથી તેઓ પોતાના ઘરે કે શાળામાં વાવી શકે. આ અભિયાનમાં સુરત પોલીસ, ગુજરાત સરકારનું વન વિભાગ અને ગુજરાત પ્રદૂષણ નિયંત્રણ બોર્ડ (જીપીસીબી) પણ સત્તાવાર રીતે જોડાય છે અને આ અભિયાનને સફળ બનાવવામાં મદદ કરે છે.
વિરલ દેસાઈએ જણાવ્યું હતું કે, ‘ટ્રી ગણેશા અભિયાનનું મુખ્ય ઉદ્દેશ્ય શહેરોને અર્બન ફોરેસ્ટ્સના માધ્યમથી હરિયાળા બનાવવાનો અને પર્યાવરણ જાગૃતિ ફેલાવવાનો છે. આ રાજ્યનો એકમાત્ર એવો ગણેશ મહોત્સવ છે, જેમાં દસ દિવસ સુધી માત્ર પર્યાવરણ જાગૃતિ અભિયાન ચલાવવામાં આવે છે. પાછલા સાત વર્ષોથી અમે આ મહોત્સવ ઉજવી રહ્યા છે, જેને પગલે અમે એક લાખ જેટલા વિદ્યાર્થીઓ સુધી પર્યાવરણ સંરક્ષણનો વિચાર પહોંચાડવામાં સફળ રહ્યા છીએ.’
